WHAT’S INCLUDED IN A LOGO DESIGN PACKAGE?

No two projects are alike, but typically I provide the following items in your logo design package. The idea is to create a logo for you in several different variations and sizes so that you’ll be prepared for practically any application and situation.

I will also provide the full logo design, the text, and the mascot/icon all separately.

Single Color Black and White Version

This verison is useful for things such as embroidery, stamps, silk-screen, business cards, and other one-color applications.

Logo design I created of a welding mask with viking horns for a welding company called Norseman Fabrications.

Full Color Version

This is the version of your logo that you will use the most. It is fully rendered with effects, gradients, shading, and multiple colors. This is handy for web use, full color printing such as brochures and business cards, and for direct-to-garment t-shirts.

Multiple file formats

Each version of the logo is provided in several different sizes and file formats, so you’re prepared for any situation.

• High and Low Resolution Transparent PNG file

• High and Low Resolution JPG file

• Layered PSD or Vector EPS file (depending on how the graphic was created)

HOW WE DESIGN LOGOS AT FLYLAND DESIGNS

logo design can evolve in many different ways, but the examples below are pretty typical of the work flow I go through with my clients to arrive at the final result.  I’ve developed this process over years of trial and error.  Here is how to design a great logo:

Generally, the design consists of three stages.
At each stage, I submit the drafts for the client to review, applying their feedback in the next stages.  If there are a lot of changes, I might repeat one of the steps.

STEP 1. ROUGH THUMBNAIL-CONCEPT SKETCHES

This stage is about putting down as many different ideas down on paper as possible.  The sketches are quick and rough, and intended mostly to narrow down the direction.   I usually do several sketches based on my client’s ideas, and then a few of my own.  Typically this stage can produce anywhere from 3 to as many as 10 different rough thumbnail sketches.

STEP 2. DETAILED PENCIL DRAWING

At this stage, the client and I have picked one or two of our favorite sketches, and really narrowed down the direction. I then go back and redraw the logo, adding detail, and sometimes refining the text. At this stage, it becomes very clear what the logo will look like.

STEP 3. ADDING COLOR

By the time we have reached this stage, a lot of the hard work is behind us. The concept and direction of the logo is already well-defined. Now I go in and add the colors and finishing touches, as well as the text. At this stage, I often show the logo with several different font options, as well as different color schemes.

Stage 1: Rough Concept Sketches

In this stage, we explore the concept and layout of the logo design. Typically, I’ll provide at least three sketches exploring different concepts.

Stage 2: Detailed Line Art Drawing

In this stage, after we’ve decided on a concept and direction, I add detail and flesh out the illustration and text, and submit for your feedback.

Stage 3: Final Color Art

After receiving your feedback, I clean up the line work and add color, and submit for your approval. I can revise the colors at this stage, or send you different variations upon request.
