Grim Reaper Speed Painting

Digital Inking Tutorial for album cover design in Manga Studio

How to digitally ink and color an album cover design in Manga Studio 5 (Clip Studio Paint) featuring the Grim Reaper.

This design is meant to subtly resemble a yin and yang, as the grim reaper reaches out to a woman emerging from a swirling portal to hell. I had a great time working with the creative people behind the music on this album, and I’m really happy with how this turned out.

Digital inking tutorial

Digital inking Movie Monsters in Manga Studio 5 (with commentary)

How to digitally ink in Manga Studio 5 – Horror movie monsters and heavy metal character designs.

I illustrated this dark detailed illustration of an epic battle between Freddy, Leatherface, Nosferatu, The Excorsist, Frankenstein, Kirk Hammet, Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Corey Taylor, and more for a documentary on the history of Metal and Horror.

I was hired by Producer Mike Schiff of M.A.S. Productions to create an illustration of some of the most iconic figures in horror and heavy metal engaging in an epic battle. The image was used to promote a documentary they produced which explores the history of heavy metal music, horror films, and how the two genres have merged together over time.

The documentary features interviews with Alice Cooper, Kirk Hammett, Corey Taylor, plus a ton of other heavy metal stars, along with huge names in the horror industry. It was so great getting the chance to illustrate these iconic figures, including Freddy, Leatherface, Nosferatu, Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Kirk Hammet, and more. Pieces of the illustration were also used for an animation promoting the documentary.

Client Testimonial:
Incredible job on this. I knew you’d create something amazing , and holy crap is this good.

Gangster hip-hop zombie digital painting smoking a cigar

Hip-Hop Zombie Gangsta Digital Painting

Digital painting of a zombie I was commissioned to create for the author Danny King as an avatar and branding identity for his sports blog.  I really enjoy making things look creepy and funny at the same time – I tried to pump a lot of personality into the character.  I seem to really like drawing people and zombies smoking cigars – not sure why that is.  This zombie painting was created in Manga Studio 5, with color adjustments and effects handled in Adobe Photoshop.Gangster hip-hop zombie digital painting smoking a cigar

Evil Dragon and Knight T-Shirt Design for Spiral Direct

T-Shirt illustration I created for Spiral Direct of a warrior confronting an evil dragon. I digitally painted this illustration in Adobe Photoshop and Manga Studio 5. This piece was very challenging for me, because of the complex lighting. The client and I went through several revisions, which in the end really improved on the piece. Mud Endeavor Poster Design

Custom poster illustration I created for the Mud Endeavor relay races in Florida. The client wanted a colorful, fun design for the event poster. I came up with the idea of having the contestants actually made of mud, since the particpants are usually covered in mud by the end of the race.

Magazine cover illustration of a giant sports stadium shaped like a birthday cake

Sports Magazine Cover Illustration

Editorial illustration I created for the cover of the Sports Business Journal commemorating their 20th anniversary. We discussed a lot of different ideas, and ultimately landed on this one: a giant stadium housing many different sports shaped like a giant layered birthday cake. The magazine has over 15,000 subscribers, and is geared toward the business side of sports.
